WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
The New Haven Women's soccer team captured their first win of the season, storming past Bloomfield 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished the game with five points, on two goals and an assist, to lead the Chargers.

The Chargers offense started off strong scoring two goals in the first half. Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) scored the first goal of the game 11 minutes into the action, assisted by Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's). Shortly following Peduzzi's goal, Tana Tufts (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) paid back Roth assisting her for the second goal of the afternoon, making the score 2-0.

The Chargers defense shut the Bears in the first half, only allowing six shots through the first 45 minutes. The Bears came into the second half firing scoring a goal in the 60th minute. That did not stop New Haven's offense from answering, adding three more goals, including Gabriela Chavez (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) who recorded her first career goal as a Charger. Additionally, Peduzzi added a second goal to finish with four points.

The Chargers offensive outburst of five goals was the most goals since November 2013 against Merrimack College.

Up next the New Haven Women's Soccer team will take on Stonehill in their first NE10 matchup of the season. Game time is set for 1:00 PM at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
