West Haven, Conn. – The New Haven women's soccer team suffered a tough loss against Stonehill on Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 in thier conference opener.
Neither team would get on the board through the first 45 minutes as Chargers keeper
Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) saved all six shots that she faced. Stonehill's offense was pushing the envelope against the defense taking 14 total shots.
In the 65th minute, Alex Giardina touched in the first goal of the game breaking the stalemate and putting Stonehill in front for good. The Chargers offense kept the pressure on the Skyhawk's but could not find the back of the net. Davis finished the afternoon with 13 saves, setting a career-high and just the third time in her career with double digit saves.
New Haven takes to the road for their next game, traveling to Bentley for a NE10 Matchup. Kickoff against the Falcons is set for 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18.
