THE LEAD
The University of New Haven volleyball team open its 12 match home schedule with a visit from fellow Nutmeg State rival Post University for what will be the first contest in the newly renovated Charger Gymnasium.

SERIES HISTORY
In a series that dates back to the end of the 20th century, New Haven holds a commanding 8-1 lead in the all-time series against Post. The first meeting between the two squads came during the 1998 season with the Chargers starting what turned into a six-match win streak, which included three-set shutouts in the first five. The lone Eagles victory throughout the history came in 2016 with Post earning a four-set decision.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
The Chargers continue to fight towards their first victory under first year head coach Christa Cooper after dropping four matches over the weekend as part of the Ferris State Invitational. Highlighting the two-day event was senior Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) who was named to the All-Tournament Team after racking up 44 kills and hitting .265 across the four matches. She also added 14 digs and blocked six of her opponent's attempts down for points. Joining her in leading the Chargers offense was sophomore Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) and junior Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) who finished with 40 and 39 kills, respectively over the weekend. Junior Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) also had a good start to the season finishing the four matches with 23 kills while adding 10 blocks.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Post opened up its 2019 campaign this past weekend with four matches at the Long Island Invitational hosted by Molloy College. The Eagles continue to search for their first victory of the season dropping three-set decisions to Molloy, Le Moyne and Franklin Pierce and a four-set decision to Mercy. As a team, Post struggled to find a hitting rhythm, closing out the tournament hitting just .090 as a team. Leading the way individually was rookie outside hitter Jayda Roman who collected 27 kills across the four matches while she was second on the defensive side of the ball with 32 digs.

UP NEXT
New Haven will continue a three-match home stand on Saturday, September 14 when the welcome they Bloomfield Bears to Charger Gymnasium for a 5:00 p.m. match. The home stand will conclude with a mid-week match-up against Molloy on Tuesday, September 17.
