WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore running back Shamar Logan (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School for Youth & Community Development) and junior defensive back Shawn Tafe (Bronx, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) each picked up some hardware on Monday afternoon as they were named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. The honor is the first of its kind for both.

Logan ran all over the Stonehill O-Line racking up 157 rushing yards on 22 carries with a pair of touchdowns. The 157 yards on the ground for Logan was the first time a Chargers has run for 150+ yards in a single game since October 1, 2016.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native's first collegiate score came in the first quarter when he broke through the middle of the line and sprinted straight down the left hash marks to the end zone to put the Chargers on the board. He then took the ball for both plays of a two play, 19-yard drive that ended with his second touchdown of the afternoon. For the season, Logan has amassed 218 rushing yards and an average of 6.2 per carry.

Tafe picked apart the Stonehill passing game, intercepting a pair of Skyhawk passes, returning them for a total of 33 yards. He added to that with five tackles. Both of his interceptions came in the second quarter with his first on a first and 10 from midfield less than a minute into the period. He would return that pick, setting the Chargers up on the Skyhawks 35 yard line.

Late in the quarter, Tafe struck again, picking off a third an 11 attempt as Stonehill looked to gain the red zone and take a lead heading into the intermission. His second interception came on the nine yard ine as the Chargers ran out the clock to end the first half.

The Chargers will make their 2019 debut on the Blue and Gold turf of Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium next time they take to the gridiron. The 2019 season opener welcomes the American International Yellow Jackets on Saturday, September 21st with kick off slated for 1:00 p.m.
