West Haven, Conn. – The New Haven women's soccer team dropped a hard fought decision against Saint Anselm on Tuesday afternoon, 2-1. After Megan Georges (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) scored to put the Chargers on the board in the 55th minute, the Hawks tied the game with five minutes remaining and then scored the game winner with four seconds remaining in the game.
The key player for the Chargers through the game was goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin). Overall for the game, Davis collected 12 saves, six in each half. In the opening half, the Hawks had two breakaways, where Davis stopped both from scoring. In addition to those two saves, she tallied two more key saves that kept the Hawks off the scoreboard.
Following the first 45 minutes, the score in the first half remained scoreless, with Saint Anselm's taking 10 total shots on the half, while New Haven took six.
The Chargers opened the scoring in the second half when Georges scored the first goal of the game in the 55th minute. Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) provided the helper on Georges' goal. With key saves and defensive stops, the Chargers were able to keep the Hawks off the board until the 94th minutes when Nicole White tied the game. The Hawks kept the pressure on, scoring the game winning goal with 4.4 seconds remaining in regulation.
