GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The New Haven field hockey team fell by a final score of 3-0 at No. 9 Adelphi on Wednesday afternoon. Junior
Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) tied her career-high with 22 saves in goal for the Chargers, tying her career benchmark she set last season.
Adelphi struck first with a goal in the 20th minute when Elissa Frein dribbled through the defenders and slid a shot past Shaker into the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead. The Panthers struck again in the 27th minute off a penalty stroke to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Shaker made six saves in the opening half, while the Chargers tallied a pair of shots on the offensive end.
Adelphi garnered another scoring chance with 12:20 remaining in the third quarter with another penalty stroke opportunity, but Shaker rose to the occasion with a big blocker save.
Frein tacked on another insurance goal for Adelphi in the 50th minute on a shot from out near the top of the circle following a penalty corner.
Shaker stopped all nine shots she faced in the third quarter, before stopping six more in the fourth.
The Chargers will return home this Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. to host No. 4 Saint Anselm.
