ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior outside hitter
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) finished flawless with 12 kills and zero errors to lead the University of New Haven volleyball team to a four-set victory of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Nolan Gymnasium. The Chargers improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-0 in Northeast-10 conference action.
Nowicki's 12 kills led three Chargers who finished in double figures for the game as she also led the hitters with a .462 attack percentage with her 12 kills coming on 26 total attempts. Joining her in leading the team was sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) (11 kills) and junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) (10 kills). Also among the leaders was junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) who finished with seven hammers.
Fera added to her double figures offensively with a team-high 15 digs to complete her sixth double double of the season. She was joined in leading the defensive efforts by freshman libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) who racked up 14 digs, while 10 different player would all finish with at least a pair of digs on the day.
Garden added to her seven kills with four total blocks as she was tied in leading New Haven's blocking efforts with freshman
Payton Reis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach) who added her four blocks to four kills. As a team, the Chargers also combined for nine total service aces, led by Fera who dropped in four unreturned serves.
In a 6-2 rotation, the Chargers turned to junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) to manage the New Haven offense with the rookie Paguia finishing with a team-high 23 assists. Chan added 18 assists as the pair led New Haven to a .188 hitting percentage for the match with a combined 49 kills on the day.
New Haven returns to Charger Gymnasium as they take a two-match break from Northeast-10 play beginning with Caldwell on Thursday, October 3. First serve against the Cougars is slated for 7:00 p.m.
