Felizor Double Double Paces Men’s Basketball in 78-73 Win over Franklin Pierce

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Behind a big second half from senior Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown), who scored 19 of his 21 points in the final 20 minutes, the New Haven men's basketball team scored a 78-73 victory over the visiting Franklin Pierce Ravens. With the victory, the Chargers improve to 10-9 overall, 8-5 in the Northeast-10, while they also finish cross-divisional play with a 6-1 record against the Northeast Division.

Overall, Felizor was one of four Chargers in doubles figures, three of which racked up 20+ in the contest. In addition to Felizor's 21 points, classmate Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) matched that total to lead the Blue and Gold. Between the pair, Felizor led the way, shooting 8-of-9 from the field while also going 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Bailey closed out his afternoon 7-of-12 from the field, including a pair of three pointers, while adding 5-of-6 at the free throw line.

Rounding out the leaders for New Haven was redshirt junior Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) who added 20 points and sophomore point guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who chipped in 10 points. Among all the leading scores, Rowland led the way from beyond the arc with four three pointers.

As a team, the Chargers closed out the game shooting 48.2 percent from the field, connecting on 27-of-56 attempts from the field, including eight three point field goals. The Chargers also combined to go 16-of-20 from the free throw line. New Haven also won the battle of the boards by a 30-27 margin with Felizor completing his fifth double double with a game-high 13 rebounds, the only player among both teams to rack up double digits. Following Felizor was Rowland with five rebounds.

The Chargers will remain at home for the first back-to-back home games since early December, hosting Pace on Wednesday, February 5. Opening tip in the return game against the Setters is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., following the women's game.
