WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Seniors Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) and Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) each concluded their final regular season with a 20+ performance as the New Haven men's basketball team dropped a 74-67 decision to the visiting Molloy Lions on Tuesday night.
With the loss, New Haven falls to 12-14 overall and by virtue of their 10-9 record in Northeast-10 action, the Chargers have earned the No. 5 seed from the Southwest Division. The Chargers will travel to Northeast Division No. 4 seed Bentley on Friday night (7:00 p.m.) to open up postseason action with an NE10 Championship First Round matchup.
Among the pair of leaders for New Haven, Bailey led the way with 24 points while Felizor followed with 21 points, which included 15 points that came by way of a career-high five three point field goals. Overall for the night, Bailey finished the game shooting 9-of-18 from the field with four three pointers while also converting both of his free throw attempts. Felizor finished the night shooting 7-of-15 overall, including 5-of-8 from long range, and was 2-of-3 at the free throw line. Felizor also led the Chargers with six rebounds.
Following the two leading scorers for the Blue and Gold was redshirt junior Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) and freshman Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who each finished with a half dozen points. As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 43.1 percent from the field (25-of-58) which included a game-high 13 three point field goals. The bakers dozen from beyond the arc is the first time New Haven has hit 10+ from long range since matching that number against Assumption on January 25.
Molloy also won the battle of the boards with a 40-24 margin with Felizor's half dozen leading the Chargers. Following him was Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who pulled down five boards to go along with his team-best eight assists. New Haven did muster a victory in points off turnovers, converting the 13 miscues by Molloy into 21 points while surrendering just nine points on seven turnovers.
