Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Ends Three-Game Decline With 1-1 Standstill

Holy Family sat, and still sits undefeated in their conference, but now they add a tie to their overall 7-2-2 record. This outcome has lead the Chargers to prevent their three-game losing streak from turning into four.

How it Happened
The Chargers and the Tigers were both equally as aggressive in terms of offense in the first half of play, both teams had attempted six shots and each time had one that slipped past the opposing goalkeeper.

For the Blue and Gold, it was Meghan Dellea (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) who put New Haven on the board in the 8th minute. Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) saw Dellea in the clear and her toe guided the ball into the lower right of the goal. This kick marks Dellea's third goal of the season, with her first two coming in New Haven's victories over Post and Bloomfield earlier in the season. All of Dellea's goals happen to be against non-conference teams.

Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella), the leader in goals this season prior to Wednesday's events, now has a teammate sitting beside her with the same number - Meghan Dellea (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill)

Just 22 minutes until the half time buzzer sounded, Kaitlyn Price (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) committed a foul bringing Jacqueline Ziegler to take the penalty kick for Holy Family, that flipped a switch in New Haven's early lead.

In the second half, both teams aimed three shots towards the net, but extra minutes were needed to determine a winner.

New Haven outshot the Tigers in the first set of extra minutes 4-1. Back-to-back shots by Alyssa McMahon (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) and Blonde in the final minute of the first overtime period were declined, leading into a second period of extra minutes. In the final ten, a determined winner was still left unanswered as a final 1-1 reading marked the scoreboard in Kathy Zolad Stadium.

New Haven overall gave two extra kicks towards the net in comparison to their rival, but in the end Dellea's was the only one that saw its way through.

What's Next?
After hosting Wednesday's game, New Haven will venture north to Syracuse to meet NE10 rival, LeMoyne College. Saturday's start time is the earliest the Chargers have had all season with things kicking off at 11:00 a.m. on Oct. 16.
