NEW HAVEN, CONN. -Â The New Haven men's soccer team suffered their fourth defeat of the season in a 2-1 loss to the No. 1 Franklin Pierce Ravens.
The Chargers were the first on the board with a
Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) goal, stemming from an assist from
JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour)Â after 32 minutes of play.
Santanach's goal is his tenth on the year and puts him at second in the conference for goals scored. Viruet's assist is his second of the season and the third of his career.
Francisco Guedes (Lisbon, Portugal/Maristas de Carcavelos) and
Tyler Jasinski (Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan)Â also tallied a shot for the Chargers, the latter being one of two on goal.
For the first time all year, the Chargers were outshot, 15-3 (11-2), with all three of their shots in the first half.Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet)Â racked up eight saves in the contest, bringing his season total to 46. Kastoris is now tied for third in the NE-10 in saves.
New Haven, now 5-4-2 (2-4-2), stays at seventh in the conference standings as they look to get back in the win column against the SHNU Patriots (6-4-1). Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Oct. 23 at Penmen Stadium.
