Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chargers Rack Up 27 Shots in 0-0 Draw

WEST HAVEN, CONN. - The New Haven men's soccer team dominated on the offensive end, applying pressure by taking a total of 27 shots, but they settled for a scoreless draw against the Stonehill Skyhawks on Saturday, October 2 at Kathy Zolad Stadium.

The Chargers finished the match outshooting the Skyhawks, 27-10 (6-6 on goal), with 13 shot attempts in the first half. The Chargers defense was aggressive the whole contest, not allowing more than three shots in any period.

Pau Santanach's (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) point streak officially came to an end at seven games, as he finished with eight shots, three of which were on goal

Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) was on the field for 99 minutes, tallying six shots with one on goal. Alvaro Ezpeleta (Vigo, Spain/Colegio Amor de Dios) ended with four shots, none on goal.

The Chargers had all the momentum for nearly the entire match, however, could not capitalize on several offensive opportunities. Skyhawk's keeper Andrew Hammersley made the timely saves to quell the Charger's efforts.

Freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) was lights out between the posts, making all six save attempts to bring his season total to 30.

New Haven, now 5-2-1 9 (2-2-1), looks to get back in the win column on Wednesday, October 6 as they take on crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State University (1-6-1). Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Jess Dow Stadium.
