Chargers End Drought; Pick Up Much Needed 3-1 Victory Over Assumption

WEST HAVEN, CONN. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team ended their winless streak at five with a 3-1 victory over the Assumption Greyhounds at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Wednesday.

The Chargers were on the board first after seven minutes of play thanks to a Tano Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) goal, off an assist from Adam Lindstrom (Orbero, Sweden/Grillska Gymnasiet).

After an Assumption goal tied it up at one apiece, freshman forward Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) called game by scoring a pair of late goals to secure the win.

Pau Santanach (Barcelona, Spain/Collegi CreaNova) now has 13 goals on the season, placing him one behind Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca for the NE10 conference lead. Santanach put up two goals for the third time this season.

Desseno scored his second goal of the season but picked up his seventh assist on the year. Desseno's seven assists tie him for second in the conference.

The Charger's offense now ranks fifth in the conference with 29 goals on the season as the team is currently ranked seventh in the standings with 11 points during NE10 play.

New Haven outshot Assumption, 20-9 (10-3 on goal), with 16 shots in the second half. Half of the Charger's shot attempts came from Santanach who ended with 10 shots, six of which were on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) made two saves in between the goal posts. Kastoris's season total is now up to 52, tied for fourth in the conference.

New Haven, now 6-5-2 on the season, will stay home as they host the Le Moyne Dolphins. Opening kick is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Saturday, October 30.
