WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
For the final time in the regular season, the New Haven field hockey took to DellaCamera Field under the lights with freshman Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) recording six points on the night to lead the Chargers in a 4-1 victory over Mercy. With the win, New Haven improves to 9-7 overall, 9-3 in the Northeast-10.

Nixon had a hand in all four of the Charger goals, recording a pair of assists in the opening half and scoring two of her own in the second half. With her six points, she vaulted into the team lead, now with 19 points on seven goals and five assists. Just behind her is senior Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) with six goals and a pair of assists for 14 points, with one of those goals coming just 80 seconds into tonight's contest as she drilled home a pass through the center of the circle, with the pass coming from senior Reilly Bialko (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area).

The Chargers second goal, the eventual game-winner, came in the second quarter when Nixon partnered with fellow rookie Audrey Larson (Gilroy, Calif./Gilroy). Nixon began a scramble in front of goal with a shot of her own, collecting her own rebound and sending it across the front of the cage where Larson redirected it over the end line.

Nixon would then net her first goal of the night just over five minutes into the second half when she partnered with sophomore Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) for what at the time was a 3-0 lead. Trammel fired a long cross which Nixon was able to redirect for the score.

Just over 12 minutes later, Nixon struck again when she finished off a pass from Julia Battino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), regaining a three-goal advantage for her team. Overall, New Haven outshot the Mavericks 13-4, holding Mercy without a shot for the entirety of the first half. Graduate keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) was called on for just two saves on the night.

New Haven will conclude its regular season on Friday afternoon when they travel to Manchester, N.H. for a date with the No. 6 Saint Anselm Hawks. The NE10 finale, which is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start, can be seen live on NE10 NOW.
