NEW HAVEN, Conn. - For the first time in her career freshman Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) put up a multi-goal outing to lead the New Haven field hockey team in a 6-0 shutout of crosstown rival Southern Connecticut on Wednesday night at Jess Dow Field. Nixon was one of four scorers for the Chargers who improve to 6-5 on the season and 6-1 in the Northeast-10.
Joining Nixon in a multi-goal outing was senior Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) who also finished with a pair of goals, her second game of the season with more than one score. Schreck also added an assist. The remaining two goals for New Haven came from the bench with Natalie Carter (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and Morgan McCarty (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) who each scored their first goals of the season.
On the other end of the field, graduate keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) finished with eight saves, her second game with eight or more and the fifth time this season she has finished with eight or more stops.
The Chargers got  on the board early with a pair of goals in the first four minutes, the first of which came 101 seconds into the action when Schreck net her first of the afternoon off an assists from Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway). Just under two minutes later, Nixon added the first insurance goal and her first of the game off an assist from Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran).
New Haven would put three more goals on the board before the end of the first half with the third of the day coming from McCarty on a rebound shot. Carter would add to the tally with her first of the season off some help from Katie Durkee (Salem, Conn./East Lyme) in the 17th minutes, while Nixon added the final of the half with 68 seconds remaining before the break, this time tapping in a pass across the goal provided by Schreck.
Schreck then added to her tally midway through the third quarter, scoring this time unassisted.
The Chargers will get back to work on the weekend when they return home for the first of back-to-back home games, hosting the Southern New Hampshire Penmen under the lights on Saturday, October 9. The conference match-up is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start with all of the action available live on the Chargers Sports Network, part of NE10 NOW.
