WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's tennis team fell to Adelphi Wednesday 7-0 at the New Haven Tennis Courts. The Chargers now stand at 3-5 (3-4 NE10) on the year and sit sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference standings, with five matches left in the regular season, three in conference play.
In the double's rounds, Adelphi swept all three matches, with 6-3 wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, and a 6-2 decision in the No. 2 doubles bout. In singles play, sophomore Katherine MacPhail (Park City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) went the distance the No. 4 spot, winning the opening set 6-1 before falling in a 7-4 tiebreak to decide set two, and a 10-5 defeat in the deciding set.
Junior Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) also went to a tiebreak tied six in the opening set of the No. 3 singles contest, falling 7-5, before a 6-1 loss to the Panthers' Caterina Federici. Freshman Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) put up a fight throughout her singles match, falling 7-5, 6-4 in her first career match in the No. 1 singles position for the Blue and Gold.
