MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight week and the fourth time this season, a Charger takes home a Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor with graduate student running back Zach Mauro (Woodbury, Conn./Nonnewaug) earning NE10 Offensive Player of the Week distinction following the Blue and Gold's 16-10 win over Assumption.
Mauro led the Chargers on a rainy Saturday at DellaCamera Stadium, racking up 133 rushing yards on 25 carries, including a seven yard touchdown haul that put the Chargers ahead 14-3 early in the third quarter.
Mauro's longest run of the day went for 15 yards while his offensive line assisted in providing an extra yard or two on a number of occasions. He also played a key role late in the game with the Chargers running the clock down, including securing a couple of late first downs to extend the drive for New Haven.
He and the Chargers return to action on Saturday when they host Bentley in the regular season home finale, pitting a pair of undefeated NE10 teams on the gridiron. Prior to the game, which is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start, the Chargers will honor 22 members of the program who will don the Blue and Gold at home for the final time in the regular season.
