Integlia Stands Strong to Lead Field Hockey to NE10 Quarterfinal Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – After 80 minutes scores, it came down to penalty strokes for the New Haven field hockey team as they survived a scoreless draw to win 3-1 in the shootout advancing to the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in the team's first postseason appearance in program history.

Leading the Chargers on the night was its backstop in graduate keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) who racked up 12 saves in the 80 minutes of action before stopping the first two penalty stroke attempts by the Falcons. After allowing a goal on Bentley's third attempt, Integlia came through again with a key save on the fourth attempt to ice the victory before being dog piled by her teammates.

With the victory, New Haven advances to the semifinal round of the conference tournament, the first to be contested since the 2019 campaign, and will take on the sixth seeded Adelphi Panthers who upset third seed Stonehill on Thursday night. The semifinal round is scheduled for Thursday and will take place at Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y. with a start time to be determined.

Overall, the Falcons led the way with a 22-12 advantage in the shot column with the home team putting up the majority of its assault in the second half and overtime periods. Included was a barrage of attempts midway through the second overtime period with Integlia collecting a pair of saves in that series and five total in the second overtime period alone. New Haven did lead the way in the shot column in the first half with a 5-2 advantage.

With New Haven taking its penalty stroke attempts first, the Charger turned to senior Reilly Bialko (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) to convert the opener and put Bentley on its heels earlier. After a wide attempt on the first stroke from Bentley, junior Katie Durkee (Salem, Conn./East Lyme) converted her attempt to put her squad ahead 2-0.

Another wide attempt by the Falcons followed Durkee with the Chargers third attempt was waived off for a foul, while the Falcons converted their third attempt. With the Chargers leading 2-1, senior Tayloe Geaglone put her stroke attempt in the back of the cage, forcing the Falcons to convert on their next attempt. That stroke by the Falcons Hannah Blomquist was kicked away by Integlia with the celebration to follow.
