GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven field hockey team saw its most successful season in program history come to a close on Thursday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision to the sixth seeded Adelphi Panthers in the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship.
Despite the setback, the Chargers close out their 2021 campaign with a 10-10 overall record and the programs first ever postseason appearance. The 10 victories for New Haven doubled their previous single-season high (5-13 in 2019), while four Chargers earned postseason honors as announced by the league on Monday. Against the Panthers, Adelphi opened up its scoring just prior to the end of the first quarter, taking that 1-0 lead into the intermission. New Haven finished the game with five total shots, two of which were marked on goal. Those two best scoring opportunities came in the fourth quarter as the Chargers offense ramped up looking to knot the score at one, however the Panthers added their insurance goal until inside five minutes to play to secure the victory.
Graduate keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) concluded her season with her third-straight and fifth overall double digit save performance with 10 stops, facing a total of 16 shot attempts by the Panthers.
