Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Alyssa Pasniewski

Men’s Hoops Come Up Short to Close Out Four-Game Road Stint

New Haven Starters: Sean Smith Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart High School), Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy), Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y. /Elmont Memorial High School ), Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie)

Le Moyne Starters: Jeremiah Washington, Xavier Wilson, Kevin Constant, Christian Davis, Nino Hernandez

How it Happened
After being held scoreless for five minutes off the jump, New Haven (3-1) allowed the Dolphins to secure a 10-point advantage early on. The Charger's offense chipped away at their once 11-point fall and narrowed that down to four going into the half, 40-36.

Turnovers were to blame for the Blue and Gold's struggle early on. Before New Haven's first points made their way onto the scoreboard they had already accumulated six turnovers, giving Le Moyne the right-of-way to a double-digit lead. They piled on an additional three to finish the half and walked out of Ted Grant Court with 20.

Helping on the offensive end was Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who finished the game with 14 points. Thomas assisted the Chargers get within two points of the Dolphins in the first half with his trip to the free throw line.

With the help of Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy), Thomas's layup wiped away the Dolphins early lead as the score was locked at 68-68. New Haven had just a hair over three minutes to come out on top.

A driving layup by Lane brought New Haven within two points of Le Moyne but a foul on Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) sent Christian Davis to the stripe with two attempts, both making net.

Le Moyne was the finals stop on the Chargers four-game trot around New York. Their first three victories came from CSI and D'Youville in their opening tournament. Then another at Molloy this past Wednesday. New Haven comes home 3-1 so far in the 2021-22 season after this 79-75 fall in Syracuse.
