Holland Scores Hat Trick as Women's Lacrosse Falls 12-8 to No. 17/RV Bentley

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Senior attack Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) continued her scoring streak with a trio of goals as No. 14/20 women's lacrosse fell to No. 17/RV Bentley University at Kathy Zolad Stadium Thursday. For Holland, she's now scored in each of her last seven matches and extends her team lead on the scoring sheet with 11 goals through her first three games of the season.

Junior Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) followed her in leading the Blue and Gold, notching a pair of goals on the afternoon, her seventh and eighth goals of the season as she is now 10 goals away from 50 for her career. Three other Chargers made their way onto the score sheet with a single goal each from freshman Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier), junior Julia Astram (Milford, Conn./Milford) and senior Mary Rishmany (Tiverton, R.I./Bishop Stang).

Bentley opened the game and struck quickly, scoring its first goal just 39 seconds into the match, before adding two more in the first six minutes of play, and prompting a New Haven timeout. Following that break, neither side would score for the next 12-plus minutes, before Holland scored her first on the day and broke the scoreless drought.

The Falcons would follow that up scoring another three unanswered goals in the half, including a pair in the final two minutes to give the visitors a 6-1 advantage going into the break.

Out of halftime Bentley would again strike first, this time four minutes into the second stanza, to extend the lead to six. Rishmany would net her second of the season just 16 seconds later, sparking a streak of three straight goals for New Haven in a span of 2:48.

Following a timeout, the Falcons answered back with three goals of their own to put the score at 10-4 with 17:37 to play in the game. Back-to-back goals by Skelly and Holland just 50 seconds apart cut the deficit to four before Bentley once again erased the Chargers comeback with a pair of their own. Skelly and Levitt would add one more each in the final 5:12 of the game as the Blue and Gold dropped their second match in a row to a ranked opponent.

New Haven returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel away from Zolad Stadium for the first time, visiting Pace. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with live coverage being streamed on NE10 NOW and live stats available at NewHavenChargers.com.
