Women's Lacrosse Drops Saturday Decision at Pace

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore attack Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) netted her first career hat trick as No. 14/20 women's lacrosse dropped a Saturday afternoon bout with No. 24/Rv Pace University, 19-8.

Four other Chargers reached the back of the net, with senior Emily Holland (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) scoring a pair to extend her scoring streak to eight games. Freshman Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier), and juniors Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and Julia Astram (Milford, Conn./Milford) each notched a single goal, with each now scoring at least once in every game this season.

On defense, freshman Fabi McLeod (Concord, N.H./Cheshire Academy) made her third consecutive start between the pipes, stopping 11 of the Setters shots on net. Levitt and Skelly controlled five and four draw controls, respectively, with program leader, graduate Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) controlling a pair as well.

Pace came out of the gates firing with a pair of goals in the first three minutes, before Holland scored her first of the day. From there the Setters continued to dominate, scoring nine of the next 10 goals in the opening 21 minutes of the first half.

The Chargers got two more goals on the board from Astram and Acquavita to stop the Pace run, before the home side scored one more, and took a 12-4 lead into the break.

New Haven would give up one more 64 seconds into the second half, before Acquavita scored on a player-up advantage for her side. Four straight from the Setters after that put the game out of reach, extending the lead to 12, before the Blue and Goal scored three in a row, including another for Acquavita with a player in the box for Pace. The home side would notch two more late, and take a 19-8 victory over the Chargers.

Next up, New Haven will play its second straight road contest Wednesday when it takes a trip to Long Island to battle Adelphi University. First draw between the Chargers and Panthers is set for 6:00 p.m. with the action broadcasted live on NE10 NOW and live stats available on NewHavenChargers.com.
