Women's Tennis Falls 4-1 to Le Moyne Sunday

DeWitt, N.Y. – The New Haven women's tennis team dominated doubles play Sunday, taking a single point in a 4-1 loss to Le Moyne College at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt, N.Y. Playing indoors for the second time this season, the Blue and Gold earned victories in the second and third doubles rounds on the afternoon.

At second doubles, the pairing of junior Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) and sophomore Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) earned a 7-5 victory, and at third, senior Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) and sophomore Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) won by the same score line.

Moving to the singles rounds, Mika put up a fight at the three spot, forcing a tiebreak in set one, before falling in the second set. Graduate student Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) also forced a tiebreak in the second set at first singles, winning and pushing a third set that went unfinished when the Dolphins clinched the match.

Next up, New Haven will look to bounce back midweek, when it returns to West Haven on Wednesday to host Assumption. First serve between the Greyhounds and the Chargers is set for the 3:00 p.m. at the New Haven Tennis Courts, with results available at NewHavenChargers.com when the match goes final.
