MILFORD, Conn. - In a match that went deep into the night Sunday, the New Haven women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Le Moyne College at Milford Indoor Tennis. The Chargers earned the doubles point and one singles point on the evening.
In the doubles rounds, graduate
Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) and senior
Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) earned their sixth win of the season together in the top spot with a 6-3 victory. Gonzalez' win also came on senior day for the Blue and Gold as she was honored prior to the match as the team's lone departing senior.
The Chargers would drop the second doubles match, and the deciding third set would go all the way to a tiebreak, with sophomores
Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) and
Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) earning the win 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the first point of the match.
As singles play began, Andric gave New Haven its only point of solo play with a straight set 6-3, 6-1 victory over her opponent in the top spot. For Andric its her sixth victory in seven matches in singles play this season and the fourth time in the last five matches that she's earned both a doubles and singles victory in a day.
In the other matches, Banks and junior
Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) both went three sets at fourth and second singles, respectively, before falling to their opponents in the deciding sets.
