Vick Earns First Win as Women's Tennis Sweeps AIC 7-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Charlotte Vick (Englewood, Fla. /Evansville North (Ind.)) earned the first win of her collegiate career Wednesday as the New Haven women's tennis team took down American International College 7-0. With the win, the Chargers improve to 5-5 on the year (4-4 NE10) and sweep the season series with the Yellow Jackets.

Vick's aforementioned win was one of four by the Blue and Gold in singles play, beating her opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. She finished her match just after freshman Sydney Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) earned her second victory in solo play this season, taking her match 6-4, 6-2.

Also in singles play, senior Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) made her first appearance in the top slot for New Haven, winning the match 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) stepped in at second singles, taking another straight set victory by the same score, 6-2, 6-2.

Jumping back to the double rounds, the Chargers opened the day with graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) and junior Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) making up the first-doubles tandem, with the two sealing a 6-2 victory. 

Freshmen Elena Miko (West Haven, Conn./Cheshire Academy) and Cassidy Smith (Millstone, N.J./Allentown) made their first doubles appearance of the year together and also earned their first win as a pair with a 6-3 victory at the second spot.
