Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 to Adelphi Wednesday Afternoon

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. - Pair of Chargers earned singles victories across the afternoon as the New Haven women's tennis team fell to the Adelphi Panthers 4-3 on Monday.

Graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) picked up her team-leading seventh singles victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-3 sweep at the two spot. At first singles, senior Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) notched her second win in a row in solo play as she came back from a set down to beat her opponent in three, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

In the doubles rounds, Andric and senior Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) made their first appearance together, falling to the Panthers, undefeated pairing of Barbara Quagliardi and Nicole Kielan 6-2. Andric would earn her aformentioned singles win over Quagliardi later in the day.

At second doubles, Gonzalez and junior Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) battled Adelphi's other undefeated doubles tandem of Nicole Stay and Amanda Franstedt, falling in a closely contested match 6-4.

Rodriguez would eventually take on Stay at third singles, falling in straight sets as the Adelphi senior moved to 9-0 on the season. Mika would go match up with Franstedt, falling 6-4, 6-0 against another one of the Panthers top players.

New Haven would earn its third point of the afternoon due to a lack of available players at sixth singles for Adelphi.

The Chargers will wrap up the 2021 regular season Thursday when they return to the New Haven Tennis Courts to complete the home-and-home series with the Panthers. First serve is scheduled for Thursday at 3:00 p.m. with box scores available at NewHavenChargers.com at the conclusion of the match.
