Acquavita Nets Career High as Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 21-9 Victory Over Saint Rose

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) had herself a day, finishing with six goals and a pair of assists as No. 19 Women's Lacrosse took down the College of Saint Rose 21-9 on Wednesday.

In total, eight different Chargers reached the back of the net, including hat tricks from juniors Julia Astram (Milford, Conn./Milford) and Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) who finished with four and three goals respectively. Also on the score sheet with a pair of goals each were freshman Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) and Kyra Sparks (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township), along with junior Meredith Karsonovich (Hampton Falls, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas).

Freshman Olivia Tarricone (Lacey Township, N.J./Lacey Township) rounded out the scoring for the Blue and Gold with a free-position attempt, the first goal of her collegiate career. The Chargers also assisted on six goals, with Levitt and Acquavita each providing a pair, and Astram and freshman Helena Koch (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional) adding one each. On defense, freshman Fabi McLeod (Concord, N.H./Cheshire Academy) finished with five saves on the afternoon, while Levitt and graduate student Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) led the draw control department with eight a piece.

Saint Rose opened the scoring in the first half with a goal 3:10 in, before Skelly scored back-to-back goals to give New Haven its first lead of the game. Saint Rose would counter with two of their own and go up 3-2. The sides would exchange a single goal back and forth to give the Golden Knights a 4-3 edge with 8:44 to play in the first.

New Haven would find its footing late, scoring four goals in just under two minutes to create a 7-4 advantage, before Saint Rose tacked on two more, to cut the lead to one after 30 minutes of play.

Out of the intermission, the Chargers continued to light up the score sheet with two goals in the opening 86 seconds of the half. After the Golden Knights got one back, New Haven went right back to it with four more goals in just over two and a half minutes to extend the lead to 13-7.

After the visitors scored two more, to cut the deficit to four, the Chargers would score the last eight goals of the game, rounded out with Tarricone's first career tally with just under five minutes to play.

Next up, the Blue and Gold will have the midweek off before they return to play next Saturday, traveling to Syracuse to take on Le Moyne College. Opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. with live coverage available on NE10 NOW and live stats available through NewHavenChargers.com.
