WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Sydney Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) earned the first win of her collegiate career Saturday as women's tennis won its third match in a row with a 7-0 sweep of American International College.
Constantinidi gave up just one game in her match at fourth singles, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Abby Murphy (Southington, Conn./Southington) added a win at third singles as she also conceded just one game, winning by the same score line, 6-1, 6-0.
The Blue and Gold opened the afternoon with a pair of wins at first and second doubles as graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) and senior Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) continue to excel as the top doubles pairing for the Chargers, winning 6-3. At second doubles the first time pairing of freshmen Elena Miko (West Haven, Conn./Cheshire Academy) and Abby Murphy (Southington, Conn./Southington) pulled off the victory 6-1.
Moving to singles play, Andric won her fourth straight in the top spot with a straight set victory 6-2, 6-3. At second singles, senior Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) notched her fourth win in solo play this season with a 6-3, 6-3 finish over her opponent.
The other three points on the day came via walkovers due to a lack of available players for the Yellow Jackets.
