GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Closing out a four-game series with the Adelphi Panthers, the New Haven softball team dropped both ends of a Monday afternoon doubleheader at the Panthers Ficke Field, falling 10-0 in the opening game and 5-0 in the nightcap.
Overall, New Haven was held to just four hits total on the day, splitting them evenly across the two games. All four hits came from different players as junior Ava Fitzmaurice (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) and freshman Ellie Frederick (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee), picked up the hits in game one and senior Jovanna Hillman (Seymour, Conn./Saint Joseph) and freshman Hailey LaForte had the honors in game two. Both Frederick and Hillman's hits went for two bases.
Adelphi's defense fed off of starting pitcher Ally Muller who earned the complete game shutouts in both outings. Suffering the losses for the Chargers were both junior hurlers Mia Iodice (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) in game one and Ava Fitzmaurice (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) in game two.
New Haven will return to action with a midweek doubleheader across town when they take on rival Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch from Pelz Field in New Haven is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
