Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Pace Despite Big Effort from Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park); Will Face Setters Again Twice Sunday

Pleasantville, NY - The New Haven baseball team fell twice on the road to Pace in a NE10 Southwest Division doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Pace won the opener in a high-scoring affair 13-8, while also claiming the nightcap 4-1.

Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) was the offensive star for the Chargers, collecting four hits, including a pair of home runs on the day. Bianco was 4-for-7 with three RBIs. Robert Taylor (Wolcott, Conn./The Gunnery) (Wolcott, CT/The Gunnery) was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a solo home run. Hunter Boag (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) (Colts Neck, NY/Colts Neck) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

On the mound, Bryan Pazulski (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) (Media, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) threw an effective complete-game in the game two loss.

Game 1 - Pace 13, New Haven 8

After taking a 1-0 lead on the first of two Bianco home runs in the second inning, the Blue and Gold fell behind 6-1 before mounting a comeback in their half of the fifth-inning.

New Haven scored four runs to pull within 6-5. Taylor started the rally with a double, and eventually scored when Aaron Soucy (Brooklyn, Conn./The Pomfret School) (Brookly, CT/The Pomfret School) read on an error. Jack Reardon (Commack. N.Y./Commack) (Commack, NY/Commack) then walked with the bases loaded to make the score 6-3. Noah Budzik (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) (Cromwell, CT/Cromwell) then delivered a two-out single scoring Andrew Cain (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, NY/Seaford) and Soucy to pull within a run.

However, Pace would have a big inning of its own, plating six runs to take control of the game and lead 12-5 after five innings.

Taylor, Boag, and Bianco would hit solo home runs in that order to pull the Chargers within 13-8 but they could get no closer.

Game 2 -Pace 4, New Haven 1

The Setters set the pace by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and holding the Chargers off the scoreboard for the first five innings. Pace would double that lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

New Haven would avoid the shutout when Bianco scored Reardon, who led off the inning with a walk, in the sixth inning.

Pazulski was efficient and effective in his second start of the season. He scattered eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter in his complete-game effort.
