COMPLETE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON PREVIEW
FULL 2021 NEW HAVEN SCHEDULE
MANSFIELD, Mass. – With the loss of just one senior to graduation, the New Haven women's tennis team is set for a big season in 2021 and it began today with the release of the Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll with the Chargers selected to finish sixth among the 11-member league. New Haven will kick off its season with back-to-back NE10 matches to open the year, the first of which will be a visit to Saint Anselm on Sunday, September 12.
The Chargers received 56 points in the preseason poll, finishing just behind Southern New Hampshire who did not compete during the CoVID-19 shortened 2021 Spring season. Franklin Pierce came out on top of the preseason poll earning nine of the 11 possible first place votes and finishing with 99 points overall. Adelphi and Stonehill finished second and third, respectively, while each were presented one of the two remaining first place votes. Rounding out the top four was Le Moyne with 72 points, one point ahead of SNHU.
Following the Chargers were Assumption (43 points) in seventh place, Bentley (37) in eighth, American International (23) in ninth, Saint Anselm (22) in 10th, while Saint Michael's closed out the preseason poll with 16 points.
Leading the Chargers into the 2021 campaign will be graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) who returns after NE10 All-Conference Second Team honors following the 2020 Spring season, with those accolades coming at the No. 1 position where she finished 7-1 overall. All four the Chargers postseason honorees will return with Andric joined by graduate student Lilia Rodrigues and junior Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) who were named to the All-Conference Third Team in doubles play and freshman Abby Murphy (Southington, Conn./Southington) who was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
Following the season opener against Saint Anselm, the Chargers will make their debut at the New Haven Tennis Courts on Tuesday, September 14 with a second-straight NE10 match, welcoming the Southern New Hampshire Penmen to West Haven.
