WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
Behind a pair of goals from senior Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran), the New Haven field hockey team shutout the visiting Saint Michael's Purple Knights to open up its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a victory.

LEADERS

Rider extended her team lead to three goals on the year with a pair against the Purple Knights, both of which providing insurance in the Blue and Gold's shutout victory. The game-winning goal came in the opening quarter when Reilly Bialko (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) found the back of the cage, redirecting an attempt from Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield).

Geaglone would get the credit of a pair of saves in the game, while adding a pass to Rider's first goal of the afternoon. Julia Battino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) also had a hand in that first Rider goal when she found Geaglone who quickly redirected to Rider. The final goal of the afternoon as an assist from Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) setting up Rider.

In goal, graduate keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) earned her first victory with the Chargers, securing the shutout with a pair of saves. Overall, Integlia and the New Haven defense faced just six shots from Saint Michael's, while the Blue and Gold offense fired a season-high 20 attempts. The Chargers also held a commanding 15-5 lead in penalty corners, with all three of the goals coming off of those restarts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

New Haven broke through with two minutes remaining in the first quarter when the inserter Bialko quickly moved into a position in front of the cage where she redirected a long attempt from Geaglone just inside the top of the goal. Geaglone fired her shot from the top of the arc where it found Bialko just off the right corner of the cage, two yards off the end line where her deflection redirected the shot up and over the diving attempt by the Purple Knights goalkeeper.

The Chargers second goal was once again triggered off of a penalty corner with Bialko as the inserter. This time around, Bialko inserted to Battino who quickly shoveled a pass to Geaglone who found Rider on the opposite side of the arc. Rider repositioned to her right, 12 yards off the goal line where she slammed an attempt through one defender and eluding the Purple Knights keeper to her right, sneaking the goal inside the right upright.

Rider would strike once more with under three minutes remaining. After the inserted pass from Bialko was fired in by Geaglone, Nixon collected the rebound on the far left of the cage where she found Rider 14 yards off the end line. Rider again weaved her shot through the defense and inside the left upright to extend her team lead to three goals on the year.
