WEST HAVEN, Conn. – In what was a defensive battle all night long for the New Haven field hockey team, the Chargers dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 2 West Chester University on Wednesday night under the lights at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. New Haven falls to 2-3 on the season and will get back to work on Sunday afternoon, September 19, when they return to conference play with a road trip to Rindge, N.H. to take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens.
The Golden Rams held the possession for the majority of the night with New Haven mustering just one shot on the evening, with that attempt from a long blast from Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) that was blocked down by a West Chester defender. New Haven also managed to earn just one penalty corner on the night, while surrendering 18 to the Golden Rams.
New Haven's defense fended off 12 first half shots with graduate goalkeeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) fighting back four of them all leading to a scoreless stalemate following the first 30 minutes of the night. The Golden Rams came out of the halftime break and didn't waste much time getting back on the offensive, earning a pair of penalty corners within the first two minutes of action.
The second of those penalty corners led to the eventual game-winning goal for West Chester as Dara Spavlik fired a hard shot from the edge of the arc on the right side of the goal. That shot rattled through the defense and found the stick of Sophia Morrison who redirected the attempt into a wide open left side with the defense unable to recover quick enough to stop the redirect.
Despite not making a save in the third quarter, Integlia came up big again in the final 15 minutes as she registered four more stops to match her season high total of eight which she set just 24 hours prior against Pace. Over the last two games, Integlila has collected 16 of her 24 total saves on the year.
