RINDGE, N.H. – First collegiate goals from freshman Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) and Audrey Larson (Gilroy, Calif./Gilroy) help lead New Haven Field Hockey to 3-0 start in Northeast-10 play with a Sunday afternoon matinee victory over Franklin Pierce by a 3-1 margin.
Jacobson and senior Julia Battino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) each put up first half goals, while Larson netted hers less than two minutes into the second half to pull away from the home Ravens, earning the Chargers third victory in its last four games. The tally for Battino turned out to be the game-winning tally as she connected with classmate Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran) in the 22nd minute.
Jacobson scored her first career goal unassisted in the 12th minute, ending the early stalemate between the two squads. Jacobson's goal was a rebound attempt for the rookie as she collected an earlier shot from Battino and fired in the game's opening tally.
Just under 10 minutes later, Rider shoveled a pass at midfield over to Battino who charged in from the midfield line and after reaching the top of the arc blasted her attempt that found the back of the cage. The Chargers held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the opening two frames combined.
Coming out of the intermission, the Chargers offense broke through again, this time as Larson secured her first career tally as she redirected a shot attempt by Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand). The initial shot from Schreck was deflected slightly by the Ravens defense, but Larson was able to redirect the ball back on target for the 3-0 New Haven lead.
Goalkeeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) earned her third win as a Charger racking up six saves on the day, giving her 22 total across three games this week.
