WALTHAM, Mass. – For the first time since Sept. 12, the New Haven women's tennis team will hit the road, as the team heads to Massachusetts for a Wednesday afternoon match against Bentley. First serve against the Falcons is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (2-2, 2-2 NE10)
The Blue and Gold enters Wednesday after splitting a pair of matches this weekend. Leading New Haven into the weekend are the No. 1 doubles pairing of graduate students Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) and Gaayatri Shankar (Kochi, India/TocH Public School) who boast a 4-0 record as a tandem this season. In singles play, Andric, and Shankar each stand at 3-1 at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Juniors Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) and Katherine MacPhail (Park City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) are both a perfect 3-0 on the year in singles, while as a team, the Chargers are 17-7, and 8-4 in doubles contests.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS (2-1, 2-1 NE10)
Bentley comes into the match with New Haven 2-1 in search of their third victory in as many matches. Holding the same record as her team Alessa Matuty leads the Falcons as the only player with multiple wins in singles play. 10 players have seen game action in solo play thus far, with nine of them earning a win. In doubles play, Zoe Chin, Anna Lang, and Remi LaSage have combined for two wins each split across three different pairings of the trio. Overall Bentley is 10-8 in singles play, and 5-4 in the doubles round.
ANDRIC MAKES HISTORY AT ITA's
One of the top players for the Chargers, Andric was one of five players to compete at the ITA regionals in Queens, N.Y earlier this season, becoming the first player in program history to make it to the semi-final round of the annual tournament.
THE FALL 2021 SCHEDULE
The Blue and Gold will play a 13-match schedule in the fall of 2021, their championship season in the NE10, hosting seven of those matches at the New Haven Tennis Courts. Having played a non-traditional spring schedule in 2021, the Chargers will return to a true regular season schedule in the fall with 10 conference matches before the NE10 playoffs in late October. The spring 2022 slate of games will be announced later this fall.
CHARGERS TABBED TO FINISH SIXTH IN NE10 PRESEASON POLL
Upon the release of the 2021 Preseason Coaches' Poll, New Haven was selected to finish sixth amongst the 11 teams in the conference receiving 56 points in the poll, just behind Southern New Hampshire (SNHU), who did not compete during the adjusted spring 2021 season due to limitations caused by the CoVID-19 Pandemic.
ANDRIC NAMED PROGRAMS FIRST ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA
Following the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year, graduate Ivana Andric (Griesheim, Germany) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team accolades in the at-large division.
