WEST HAVEN, CONN. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped their fourth straight game in 81-43 loss to the Saint Anselm Hawks on Wednesday night. After battling back from 15 points in consecutive games, the Chargers couldn't rally in this one as they were held to the least amount of points so far this season. With the loss, New Haven falls to 5-9 on the season, including 0-8 in the NE10 as the search continues.
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) led the team with 10 points, on 5-9 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds. Freshman guardÂ
Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) put up a career-high nine points in the effort, all in the second half, while going 4-6 from the field. After dropping a career-high 24 points just two games ago,
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community)Â was held to just six points and four rebounds, as her double-digit points streak ends at 13. Junior forwardÂ
Alyssa Stevenson (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson Central) also scored six points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) finished with five points, while her only made field goal came from beyond the arc.
The Hawks shot 27-54 (50.0%) from the field while making 13-24 (54.2%) shots from deep. The Chargers finished the game shooting 16-59 (27.1%) while being held to 2-17 (11.8%) from three. The Hawks went 14-19 (73.7%) from the line as opposed to the Chargers who went 9-13 (69.2%). New Haven forced Saint Anselm into 17 turnovers, while totaling 10 steals, in addition to four blocks. King recorded a career-high four steals while
Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy)Â was credited with three. DeBose tallied a steal and two blocks while
Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy)Â racked up two steals and a block.
Luzdali Ocasio (Davenport, Fla./New Hampton) was also credited with a block in her ten minutes of time. The Hawks outrebounded the Chargers, 40-32, despite both scoring 24 points in the paint. Saint Anselm outscored the Chargers, 15-3, on the fast break and 26-10 off turnovers. Both teams ended the game with 13 points stemming from second chance opportunities.
FIRST HALF
- DeBose and Deshaies both finished the half with six points and three rebounds a piece, the latter .
- Deshaies shot a perfect three for three from the field to start.
- King made her only attempted field goal, a three-pointer in the first quarter.
- King led New Haven with two assists while Debose assisted on one basket..
- Chambers was held without a made field goal, but went into the half with one point after splitting a pair of free throws.
