New Haven closes the curtains on their four-game winning streak, which ended Wednesday night as they faced a 67-62 loss to American International College. This game occurred in lieu of the postponement of the Franklin Pierce contest originally set for Wednesday. Following the five-point fall, the Blue and Gold now hold a split 3-3 conference record, pushing their overall winning percent back from .700 to .636.

How it Happened
Going into Wednesday night, New Haven's biggest threat was expected to be Franklyn Batista who prior to this game had just earned his fifth double-double of the season, second consecutive. However it was Jordan Vidal, point grade for AIC, that New Haven overlooked.

New Haven started off the night leading by three after the first 20 minutes of action. Just from the first half, both teams weren't shooting their best from the field; New Haven limited AIC to only ten made field goals, but were shooting 34.3 percent themselves.

With ten minutes before halftime, the Chargers were down 9-17 but were able to turn things around by starting a 10-0 run to come over the top 19-17. Featured in this run was one of Thomas's two three-point buckets of the first half. Thomas, who finished with a game-high of 19 points, accumulated 12 for New Haven in the first half half of which were from outside the arc.

New Haven's field goal shooting in the second half improved, but the Yellow Jackets shone even brighter. The Blue and Gold took less attempts in the second twenty minutes of play, but these were more accurate as they went 10-of-25 from the field. American International improved from 32.3 percent to 48.4 percent which carried them to victory.

This is the first time this season where New Haven lead at the half but went out with a loss. The Chargers were 6-0 when leading at the midway point prior to Wednesday.

Inside the Box Score

  • Three members of the New Haven roster hit double-digit scoring: Thomas (19), Lane (10), and Rowland (10).
  • On the defensive side, in only 13 minutes on the floor, center Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) grabbed nine boards and swatted away two shots.
  • Jordan Vidal of the Yellow Jackets scored the team-high for AIC with 15 points, accompanied by seven rebounds and two assists.
  • For the first time this season, New Haven lost even though they lead by three at the half. Prior to Wednesday's game the Chargers were 6-0 when leading at the break.
