Schreck Leads the Way as Chargers Continue Winning Streak against Franklin Pierce

West Haven, Conn. – The New Haven field hockey team has gone 3-0 in their last three games, making them undefeated in Northeast-10 conference play so far this season. The Chargers took home another win this afternoon against the Franklin Pierce Ravens, in a 4-0 decision, with graduate student Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) leading the Chargers to victory early on in the first quarter.

Within the first five minutes of the game Schreck was able to net two goals, setting the Chargers up for success early on. Her first goal game in the second minute of the game, where she was left open at the top of the circle, sending a rocket of a shot to the back right corner for the Chargers first goal of the afternoon.

Her second goal of the game came a short three minutes later, at the fifth minute of the game, where she connected with senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. Pushing into the Ravens defensive zone, John was able to find a pass within the chaos, connecting with Schreck who flicked the ball to the upper right of the cage. With these two goals, Schreck now has four on the season.

Schreck did not stop at just two goals, being a main contributor to the Chargers offensive efforts, she gathered an assist on her connection with graduate student Taylor Geagalone in the 23rd minute of the game. Geagalone was able to find the backboard after a push pass from Schreck. Sophomore Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) followed with an unassisted finish in the 32nd minute. After the ball bounced off of goalie MacKenzie Potvin's pads, right into Nixon's stick who finished hard and sealed the fourth goal for the Chargers.

Defensively, graduate keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) was able to finish her afternoon with nine saves total, collecting her second shutout of the season.
