Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Morgan McCarty

Jacobson Scores Early as Field Hockey Drops 6-1 Decision to East Stroudsburg

West Haven, Conn. – The University of New Haven field hockey team fell 6-1 to nationally ranked East Stroudsburg on Monday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at DellaCamera Stadium. The Warriors took 34 shots in the game, 24 of which went on goal, and drew 21 penalty corners.

East Stroudsburg led the way with their first goal coming in the first minute of the game, from a reverse chip to the upper corner by Hanna Lewis off a pass from Jady van Gils.

New Haven answered back rather quickly with sophomore back Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) answered with the equalizer, for her second goal of the season, off of the Chargers the first set of penalty corners of the afternoon. With a hard straight shot from the top of the circle, Jacobson was able to put the Chargers on the board, keeping the Warriors goalkeeper Amy Supey from another shut out. With that goal, the Chargers became the third team on the year to find the backboard against the Warriors defense.

That being the only goal on the afternoon from the Chargers, the Warriors found the backboard five more times throughout the entirety of the game. Two of those goals within the first half, the rest coming shortly after halftime. Morgan Mesenbrink, with a hat-trick on the afternoon, led the offense for the Warriors.

On the other end of the field, graduate goalkeeper Kierra Integlia finished the afternoon with 16 saves, as well as two team saves from the Chargers defense. New Haven finished the game off with a total of nine shots, five of them on goal, and tallied up six penalty corners.

New Haven will head back on the road, heading to Springfield to take on the Yellow Jackets of American International. Another conference game, the Chargers will look to continue their win streak to keep themselves undefeated in conference play. That game is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 5th, with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
