Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Le Moyne 2-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's soccer team dropped its second straight game on Saturday afternoon, opening up the front end of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team with a 2-0 loss to Le Moyne. With the loss, New Haven falls to 4-6-2 overall and 2-5 in the Northeast-10.

Le Moyne saw both of its goals come in the first half, and both come just two minutes apart by Avery Maxam. The game-winning goal came on a corner kick which sailed through to the opposite side of the box and found the foot of an unmarked Maxam who easily finished to the lower right corner.

Overall for the game, both New Haven and Le Moyne finished even with seven shots apiece. Le Moyne dominated in the first half with five of their seven shots coming in the first 45 minutes, while the Chargers had the edge in the second half with five of their seven shots coming in the second frame.

Leading New Haven's offensive efforts in the second half was junior Charlie Griffith who notched a pair of shots, both of which were marked on goal. In addition to that, graduate student Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), sophomore Kayla Horvaht (Stirling, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) and freshman Alida Bates (Danville, N.H./Timberlane Regional) all marked one shot on goal.

Defensively, Chargers keeper Amanda McQuillan (Meath, Ireland/) finished the game with three saves.

New Haven will remain in town for the next week, not back in action until Saturday, October 8 when they host Assumption under the lights at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Opening kickoff against the Greyhounds is slated for 7:00 p.m. with all of the action available on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
