Three New Goal Scorers Leave The Chargers Perfect in Conference Play With Win Against Molloy

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven field hockey team put their perfect record in the Northeast-10 Conference on the line once again as they entered Long Island, to take on the Lions of Molloy. With three new goal scorers on the season, alongside three returning goal scorers, the Chargers brought home a 6-0 win against Molloy.

From the start of the game, the offensive from the Chargers was strong, continuing throughout the entirety of the game. Outshooting the Lions, the Chargers put up 28 shots, 21 on goal, while keeping the Lions out of the defensive circle with no shots put on goalkeeper Carina Ramirez (Massapequa Park. N.Y./Massapequa). The Chargers also forced nine penalty corners throughout the game.

The first goal from the Chargers came off a penalty corner from graduate Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield). With the insert from junior Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) to the top of the circle, the Chargers were able to take a lead in the first minute of the game with Geaglone's shot finding the backboard. The Chargers advanced to a 2-0 lead in the second quarter from a shot from junior Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown), after a long scuffle in the circle with numerous shots, Trammel was able to find the net for the Chargers.

Freshman Erin Smith (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) netted her first career goal for the Chargers in the beginning of the third quarter, advancing New Haven to a 3-0 lead. For the fourth goal of the night, junior Audrey Larson (Gilroy, Calif./Gilroy) found the back of the net on a pass from defensive back Katie Durkee (Salem, Conn./East Lyme).  Joining Smith was junior Paige Garrett (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area), who marked her first career goal in the 56th minute, off a rebound coming from the pads of goalkeeper Ally Saigh. And to end the afternoon, in the 58th minute, Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) was able to draw the goalie out the net and get around her, finding the left back of the goal.

With this win the Chargers advance to .500 on the season and remain undefeated in Northeast-10 conference play. This undefeated conference wind streak will be put on the line once again as they take on the Greyhounds of Assumption, this time on their own turf. The match on the blue turf of DellaCamera Stadium, is scheduled to take place this Saturday, October 15th, with a start time of 7:00 p.m. All the action will be available on the Chargers Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
