WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's tennis team not only posted a 7-0 shutout of Bentley in its penultimate regular season match, the Chargers swept all nine matches on the day to improve to 7-4 on the season and 5-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Blue and Gold opened the day taking the decision in all three doubles matches, starting with a 6-0 sweep at first doubles from the underclassmen duo of Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra). At second doubles, the duo of Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria) and Gaayatri Shankar (Kochi, India/TocH Public School) took a 6-4 decision, while seniors Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) and Alexa Oralndo rounded out doubles play with a 6-2 win at third doubles.
Two of the six singles matches were completed without allowing a single set victory with 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at third singles from Banks and fourth singles with Anna Katz (Miami, Fla./Laurel Springs) taking the victory. Carreras finished her match at No. 2 singles allowing just a single set victory in a 6-1, 6-0 decision.
Rounding out singles play was a pair of rookies, Amaya Goulbourne (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) (6-2, 6-0) at fifth singles and Madi Mabrito (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) (6-3, 6-1) at sixth singles.
The Chargers will conclude the regular season on Friday night under the lights when they welcome the Assumption Greyhounds to West Haven for a 6:00 p.m. first serve. Following the match, the Chargers will await their first round opponent for the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship.
