THE LEAD
Two undefeated NE10 teams will enter the Blue turf on Saturday and only one will remain as the New Haven Field Hockey team puts their 5-0 conference record on the line against No. 7 Assumption who also travels to West Haven with a 5-0 league record.  

SERIES HISTORY VS ASSUMPTION
New Haven and Assumption meet for the eighth time in the all-time series and the second time this season. Overall, the Greyhounds hold a perfect 7-0 record in those meetings. The first meeting between the two squads came in 2017 with the two squads meeting twice each in 2018 and 2019. Last season, the Chargers dropped a 1-0 decision to the Greyhounds, the lowest scoring contest in the all-time series.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (5-5, 5-0 NE10)
One of the last remaining undefeated teams in the NE10, the New Haven field hockey team proved that playing a tough non-conference schedule to open up the season pays off when they opened up Northeast-10 Conference play with wins over Saint Michael's, Pace, Franklin Pierce, AIC and Molloy. The most recent of those wins was a 6-0 rout of the Lions with all six goals coming from different players, including three that scored their first goals of the season. Of late, graduate midfielder Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) has been a scoring force for the Chargers, racking up four goals and three assists over the last six games, currently leading the team with 13 points. Following her is fellow graduate student Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) who has amassed 10 points ont here goals and a team-high four assists, while senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and sophomore Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) are tied with Geaglone with three goals apiece, second most on the team. In the cage, graduate student Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) has started all but two game for the Chargers, collecting 63 saves to her credit and posting a pair of shutouts. Freshman Carina Ramirez (Massapequa Park. N.Y./Massapequa) stepped into the goalie position for the last two New Haven games and sports a perfect 2-0 record in those contests.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS (8-2, 5-0 NE10)
After opening the season with back-to-back losses, the Greyhounds have rattled off eight straight wins, including five in conference play to enter today's game tied with the Chargers at the top of the NE10 standings. All five of those NE10 wins for the Greyhounds have come by 1-0 decisions, the first of which was won in a shootout (AIC), while two others needed overtime to decide a victory (Bentley and Pace). The most recent win for the Greyhounds was a 2-1 decision against Adelphi on Tuesday. For the season, six different players have accounted for the Greyhounds 13 total goals, with sophomore forward Mia Salah leading all scorers with 12 points on five goals and a pair of assists. Three other players have all added two goals apiece, while freshman Chloe Kaeller leads the team with four assists. In the cage, graduate student and local product (Madison, Conn.) Kylie Gargiulo has played every minute between the pipes, collecting 60 saves while surrendering 21 goals.

ONE SHINING MOMENT
Graduate midfielder Sophie Screck capped off a six-point week that came on two goals and two assists with the Chargers first NE10 honor of the season as she picked up NE10 Player of the Week distinction as announced by the league office. Schreck opened up the week assisting on one of the goals in a 4-3 win over the Pace Setters. She then followed that up with a pair of goals and an assist against Franklin Pierce, helping her team to remain undefeated in the NE10 at 3-0. With her two goals and two assists this week, Schreck now leads the Chargers with four goals and 10 points.

THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven field hockey team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with seven of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers will spend nearly the full month of September away from home, playing their first five games on the road before making their home field debut on September 27 against Pace. That home opener is the first of three straight at DellaCamera for the Charger, the last of which is the fifth and final non-conference game against East Stroudsburg. Overall, New Haven will play 13 conference games with the top eight teams following the regular season advancing to the NE10 Championship which will begin on Tuesday, November 15.

CHARGERS SIXTH IN NE10 COACHES POLL
Following its most successful season in program history, the University of New Haven field hockey team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2022 Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Chargers received 105 points, the most they have earned in the preseason poll, keeping them inside of the top-10 for the second straight season. Assumption earned the top billing, scoring 10 of the 14 possible first place points for a total of 165 points. Saint Anselm and Bentley follow to close out the top-three, with Saint Anselm earning the remaining first place votes and 154 points and Bentley third with 140 points.  Rounding out the top-five was Adelphi with 134 points and Pace with 127 points.

UP NEXT
The Chargers will conclude a two-game homestand on Wednesday, October 19 when they host crosstown rival Southern Connecticut for a battle of the Elm City. The conference challenge is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start under the lights at DellaCamera Stadium.
