THE LEAD
The New Haven field hockey team will put its three-game win streak on the line on Monday afternoon when they host a top-three team in the nation in East Stroudsburg at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The match-up is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
SERIES HISTORY VS EAST STROUDSBURG
New Haven and East Stroudsburg will meet for the first time in the history of the two programs, however New Haven is very familiar with teams from the PSAC, already facing a pair this season in Bloomsburg and West Chester.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (3-4, 3-0 NE10)
The only 3-0 team in the NE10, the New Haven field hockey team proved that playing a tough non-conference schedule to open up the season pays off when they opened up Northeast-10 Conference play with wins over Saint Michael's, Pace and Franklin Pierce. In each of the last two games, the Chargers put up season-best numbers in goals with four against the Setters and Ravens. Graduate student Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) led the Chargers attack throughout the week with two goals and two assists. She wasn't the only one with a pair of goals as sophomore Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) added two goals, one each against Pace and Franklin Pierce. For the season, Schreck leads the team with four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points. Senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) follows Schreck with three goals and two assists for eight points, while Nixon has a pair of assists in addition to her two goals scored this past week. In the cage, Integlia has played every minute, collecting 47 saves to her credit and posting a pair of shutouts.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS (7-1, 1-1 PSAC)
East Stroudsburg opened last week as the No. 2 team in the nation with a 6-0 record and finished a pair of games last week with a 1-1 record, defeating Molloy 7-0 before falling to No. 3 Shippensburg 1-0 in a PSAC match-up. For the season, East Stroudsburg has been a force to be reckoned with, scoring 31 goals offensively but proving to be an incredibly stingy defense allowing just two goals to their opponents, while posting six shutouts. Leading the team offensively is Nicole Krozser who has 14 points on the year with six goals and a pair of assists. Two players follow her with four goals apiece, Madison Kline and Hanna Lewis. In the cage, the Warriors have utilized three different keepers with Amy Supey seeing the bulk of the action with a team-high 11 saves in eight games played. Emma Valinote has added four saves and Karlie McClosky adds one.
THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven field hockey team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with seven of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers will spend nearly the full month of September away from home, playing their first five games on the road before making their home field debut on September 27 against Pace. That home opener is the first of three straight at DellaCamera for the Charger, the last of which is the fifth and final non-conference game against East Stroudsburg. Overall, New Haven will play 13 conference games with the top eight teams following the regular season advancing to the NE10 Championship which will begin on Tuesday, November 15.
CHARGERS SIXTH IN NE10 COACHES POLL
Following its most successful season in program history, the University of New Haven field hockey team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2022 Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Chargers received 105 points, the most they have earned in the preseason poll, keeping them inside of the top-10 for the second straight season. Assumption earned the top billing, scoring 10 of the 14 possible first place points for a total of 165 points. Saint Anselm and Bentley follow to close out the top-three, with Saint Anselm earning the remaining first place votes and 154 points and Bentley third with 140 points.  Rounding out the top-five was Adelphi with 134 points and Pace with 127 points.
UP NEXT
The Chargers will head on the road for their next two games as they jump back into NE10 play against American International with a midweek match-up on tap for Wednesday under the lights of Abdow Field in Springfield. The battle between New Haven and the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start with all of the action available on NE10 NOW.
