Geaglone Strikes Game Winner as Chargers Remain Perfect in NE10 Play With Win over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The New Haven field hockey team improves to 4-0 in their last four conference games, leaving them undefeated in Northeast-10 conference play through the first four league games for the second-straight season. The Chargers took home another win this evening against the Yellowjackets of American International, with a 2-1 final.

Without their usual goalkeeper leading the defense, freshman Carina Ramirez (Massapequa Park. N.Y./Massapequa) stepped up and threw on the pads coming into a game with the perfect conference record on the line. The Yellowjackets pushed the offensive hard at the start of the game but were met with the same energy from the Chargers forward line. Ramirez was challenged with three shots throughout the game, including a hard shot from American International's Brooke Szafran who got net Yellowjackets only goal in the 27th minute of play. However, Ramirez made two great saves to minimize the lead to one going into the second half.

The Chargers offense tallied up a total of 16 shots, nine of which were on goal, challenging Yellowjacket goalkeeper Taylor Wildes in her own defensive end. It was not until the 49th minute when the Chargers were able to find the back of the cage on a penalty corner. Junior Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) with the insert up to top of the circle, finding sophomore Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) for a straight shot to the right corner of the goal for the Chargers equalizing goal.

With an even battle and the clock running down, the Chargers offense drew another foul inside of the circle, for the Chargers 12th penalty corner of the game. Trammel again with the insert, found graduate Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) at the top of the circle, who passed off to her right finding fellow graduate Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) with a straight shot slamming the backboard for the game winner.

The Chargers will once again look to advance their perfect record in the Northeast-10 conference as they go on the road to take on the Lions of Molloy, next Tuesday, October 11th. The game is scheduled for a start time of 4:00 p.m. at Cedar Creek Park.
