THE LEAD
After a one-game hiatus for a non-conference game on Monday, the New Haven field hockey team will put its 3-0 conference record on the line Wednesday night when they travel north on I-91 for a date with the American International Yellow Jackets. The conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.

SERIES HISTORY VS AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
After dropping its first three meetings, New Haven has won the last two against the conference rival with the Yellow Jackets maintaining a 3-2 edge in the all-time series which dates back to September 23, 2017. In the three losses, American International outscored the Chargers 12-3 overall, while New Haven has surrendered just one goal in the two victories, outscoring AIC 4-1 in those two contests.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (3-5, 3-0 NE10)
The only 3-0 team in the NE10, the New Haven field hockey team proved that playing a tough non-conference schedule to open up the season pays off when they opened up Northeast-10 Conference play with wins over Saint Michael's, Pace and Franklin Pierce. Among those three wins were a pair of four-goal contests against the Setters and Ravens. Graduate student Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) led the Chargers attack throughout the last week with two goals and two assists, as she now leads the team with four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points. Senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) follows Schreck with three goals and two assists for eight points, while Nixon has a pair of assists in addition to two goals scored last week. In the cage, Integlia has played every minute, collecting 63 saves to her credit and posting a pair of shutouts.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS (2-6, 1-2 NE10)
Through the first month of the season, AIC has picked up a pair of wins, including one in Northeat-10 Conference play which came against Molloy (2-1) in the Yellow Jackets NE10 opener. For the season, AIC has been outscored by a margin of 21-7 with five different players finding the back of the cage. A pair of Yellow Jackets lead the way with two goals apiece from Morgan Martellio and Na'Bree Wallace. On the other end of the field, Taylor Wildes has played every minute in the cage, collecting 61 total saves on the year.

ONE SHINING MOMENT
Graduate midfielder Sophie Screck capped off a six-point week that came on two goals and two assists with the Chargers first NE10 honor of the season as she picked up NE10 Player of the Week distinction as announced by the league office. Schreck opened up the week assisting on one of the goals in a 4-3 win over the Pace Setters. She then followed that up with a pair of goals and an assist against Franklin Pierce, helping her team to remain undefeated in the NE10 at 3-0. With her two goals and two assists this week, Schreck now leads the Chargers with four goals and 10 points.

THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven field hockey team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with seven of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers will spend nearly the full month of September away from home, playing their first five games on the road before making their home field debut on September 27 against Pace. That home opener is the first of three straight at DellaCamera for the Charger, the last of which is the fifth and final non-conference game against East Stroudsburg. Overall, New Haven will play 13 conference games with the top eight teams following the regular season advancing to the NE10 Championship which will begin on Tuesday, November 15.

CHARGERS SIXTH IN NE10 COACHES POLL
Following its most successful season in program history, the University of New Haven field hockey team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2022 Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Chargers received 105 points, the most they have earned in the preseason poll, keeping them inside of the top-10 for the second straight season. Assumption earned the top billing, scoring 10 of the 14 possible first place points for a total of 165 points. Saint Anselm and Bentley follow to close out the top-three, with Saint Anselm earning the remaining first place votes and 154 points and Bentley third with 140 points.  Rounding out the top-five was Adelphi with 134 points and Pace with 127 points.
