WEST HAVEN, Conn. -Â After honoring their six seniors, the University of New Haven field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Hawks of Saint Anselm in its final regular season game this afternoon. Despite the loss, the Chargers have clinched themselves a spot in a playoff run for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the second year in a row.
Saint Anselm got on the board early in the game with just over the three-minute mark of the first quarter on a pass that was intercepted by Shelby Dunn and finished off by Maddie Davis. The Hawks added two more insurance goals in both the 35th and 58th minutes, with two goals by Maggie Malloy.
The offensive power by the Chargers was taken down by the defense of the Hawks, only allowing two shots to be fired off by the Chargers, with only one-shot from sophomore
Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) landing in front of a goal for goalkeeper Mackenzie McConnell to make her only save on the day.
Aside from the outcome of the game, graduate goalkeeper Kiera Integlia was a powerhouse in the backfield. Facing 17 of Saint Anselm's 22 shots and making 14 saves total.
The Chargers end their regular season with an 8-10 record, 8-5 overall record in conference play. With that the Chargers will continue with a post-season run for the championship, starting on Tuesday, November 15th.
