WEST HAVEN, Conn. – For the second straight game the New Haven women's basketball team never relinquished a lead, earning an end-to-end 75-36 victory over the visiting Bloomfield Bears. With the win, New Haven improves to 3-0 on the season, the second year in a row doing so under head coach Debbie Buff.

Leading the Chargers on the afternoon was senior captain Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), one of three players to rack up double figures, while she completed her third double double in as many games finishing the contest with points and 15 rebounds. She also added four assists and a pair of steals, while shooting 6-of-9 from the field for the game.

Joining Deshaies in leading the New Haven offense was graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) and senior guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) who each finished with a dozen. Overall, nine different players got in on the scoring against the Bears. As a team, the Chargers finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field (29-of-53), including a season high eight three pointers. The Chargers also outrebounded their opponent for the third time this season, finishing with a 40-28 margin against the Bears. The also racked up 21 assists as a team, with the four from Deshaies matching Marigona Bacaliu (Worcester, Mass./Putnam Science Academy) for the team lead.

"We played great team defense for 40 minutes today," said head coach Deborah Buff. "We did a better job rebounding in the second half as we outrebounded them 40-29 for the game. We also shared the ball extremely well. Ro [Dehaies] was a monster on the boards as she completed another double double."

New Haven will head on the road for the first time this season when they next take the court when they head to Albany, N.Y. to take on the Saint Rose Golden Knights in the first of back-to-back road games. Tip-off in the conference contest against Saint Rose is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22 in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team. All of the action can be seen live on NE10 NOW.

FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·         The Chargers opened up the game scoring the first five points of the game unanswered, with all five coming from Deshaies, including the last three on an old fashioned three point play.

·         New Haven quickly opened up a double digit lead, extending that early 5-0 rally to 12-2 with 5:55 remaining in the opening frame. Again it was Deshaies who provided that 10 point margin on a layup that began with a Bloomfield turnover.

·         The largest lead of the quarter for the Chargers came with 1:22 remaining when Bianca Pendleton (Accokeek, Md./New Hope Academy) scored on a second-chance opportunity to provide a 20-6 lead for the home team.

·         Bloomfield would close out the quarter scoring the final five points to pull within nine, 20-11. Deshaies led all players in the opening period with nine points as she went 4-of-5 from the field.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·         It would tame more than two minutes before either team would get on the board in second quarter, but once again it was the Chargers to score first on a free throw from DeBose.

·         That free throw sparked what turned into a 7-0 run to open the quarter, holding the Bears scoreless for the first 3:38.

·         Again, the Chargers would extend that 7-0 run to 14-2 as they opened up the first 20+ lead of the afternoon thanks to a fast break layup from transfer post Leighanna Lister (Kutztown, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh).

·         A free throw from Pendleton as time had expired would provide the final margin of the half for New Haven who took a 35-14 lead into the intermission.

·         Six different players scored for UNH in the second quarter with King leading the charge with five.

THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·         Bloomfield would be the first to score in the third quarter, however New Haven answered by scoring the next five points to open up a 24 point lead just over two minutes into the action, with King the beneficiary of a three point play that provided the 40-16 margin.

·         The teams would trade the next three buckets with New Haven answering the third one from Bloomfield by scoring five unanswered to extend its largest lead to 28 with 5:27 remaining.

·         The Chargers would extend that lead over the 30 point mark thanks to a layup from Pendleton, pushing the lead out to as much as 36 points at the final buzzer of the period with Charlette Bassett providing that margin thanks to her first points of the day.

·         This time around it would be DeBose who led the Chargers in the period as she finished a perfect 3-of-3 from the field, including a pair of three pointers for eight points total.

FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·         Bassett opened up the fourth quarter the same way she ended the third with a jump shot to extend the Charger lead to 38.

·         The largest lead of the game would come with 2:39 remaining when Lister scored on a second chance opportunity and completing the three point play after being fouled on her attempt.

·         The Chargers would use 14 different players in the final period, including a handful that made their first appearances of the season. Included in that grouping was freshman Iris Azcona (Trenton, N.J./Red Bank Regional) who saw her first action as a collegiate player.

·         Bassett and Aliyah Wright (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) would lead the way for the Chargers in the fourth quarter, each finishing with five points while the pair was a combined 4-of-5 from the field with a pair of three pointers.
