WALTHAM, Mass. – For the fifth time during their regular season the University of New Haven field hockey team has forced overtime against its opponent, tonight the third time in its last four games where the Chargers have forced their opponent into shootouts, to determine the game winner. Unfortunately, this evening, the Chargers fell in double shootouts to the Falcons of Bentley University.
With the loss, New Haven falls to 8-8 on the season and 8-3 in conference play. Despite facing a 16-9 disadvantage in the shot column, the Chargers kept the Falcons on its heels all evening. Of the Chargers nine total shots, two were marked as on goal with the Falcons goalkeeper Mia Trottie securing both of those saves.
New Haven graduate goalie Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) recorded six saves on the evening with her defensive efforts forcing the penalty shootouts. The Falcons also held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Leading New Haven's offensive efforts was freshman Erin Smith (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) who registered three of the nine total shots, while sophomore Johannah Lee (State College, Pa./State College Area) and junior Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown) both finished with one shot on goal.
It was a scoreless draw throughout the 80 minutes of play, leading to two rounds of penalty shootouts. Only 3-of-12 penalty strokes were converted, two of those conversions favoring the Falcons.
The Chargers continue on the road, as they take on the Mavericks of Mercy College on Wednesday, November 9th with a start time of 2:00 p.m.
