WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
After missing his previous two shots, graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) floated a three pointer from well beyond the arc with 1:49 remaining draining his 1,000th career point to become the 39th player in program history to hit the mark. Lane was one of five Chargers in double figures for the second-straight game as the Blue and Gold scored a 69-50 win over Le Moyne to close out 2022.

With the win, New Haven improves to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference and following other New Year's Eve action around the conference remain tied for the league lead with Saint Anselm.

Lane closed out the day with 13 points as all five starters finished in double figures with senior Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) leading the squad as he completed the double double with a dozen points and a career-high 19 boards. Leading all scorers in the game was Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who finished with 14 points while Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) and Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) each joined Majak with a dozen.

Majak's 19 boards led all players in the game and led the Chargers to a 44-39 advantage on the boards, while he also added three blocks. Lane also finished the game with a game-high seven assists, while Olawoye followed with four, one of which went to Lane for his milestone bucket late in the second half.

As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 43.9 percent, connecting on 29-of-66 from the field, including five three-point field goals, none more important than the late three from Lane. The Chargers also finished 6-of-9 from the free throw line.

After ringing in the New Year later tonight, the Chargers will turn their attention back to non-conference action for its penultimate non-league game as they travel to Lakewood, N.J. to take on the CACC's Georgian Court Lions. Tip-off from the Wellness Center Arena is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4. Catch all the action live on the CACC Network with links available at NewHavenChargers.com.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS

·        The Chargers opened up the game scoring the first four points of the game and never looked back, not even allowing the Dolphins to tie the score at any point. Thomas would provide the first two points of the night on a pair of free throws 49 seconds into the action.

·        The Dolphins' first bucket of the night came from beyond the arc, however New Haven responded by scoring the next seven points, opening up a nine-point lead just five minutes into the action.

·        Le Moyne was able to put together back-to-back buckets before New Haven responded with an and-one from Olawoye.

·        The Dolphins were able to pull within three twice more later in the period, however New Haven scored the final four points of the frame to take a 37-30 lead into he halftime intermission.

·        Thomas led the Blue and Gold in the opening half with 12 points, shooting 4-of-5 from the field which included a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Majak finished the opening half with nine of his 19 total boards.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS

·        New Haven again opened up the period on a high note, scoring 13 of the first15 points to take their first double digit lead of the game, and extending that lead to as much as 18 with 14:36 remaining. In that early run, four of the Chargers five starters combined to score the 13 points.

·        Le Moyne wasn't going to go down without a fight, pulling the deficit back into single digits twice, the second of which was with just over four minutes remaining in the game.

·        Olawoye and Majak responded to that by going back-to-back as the Chargers would go on to close out the game on a 13-3 run to secure the victory.

·        Lane's milestone bucket came with 1:49 remaining as Majak pulled down the defensive board on the opposite end and as time was winding down on the shot clock, Olawoye found Lane just to the side of the top of the key where he calmly fired and sank his sixth field goal of the night.

·        Olawoye would lead the scoring in the second half with eight points as all 32 points in the final 20 minutes came from the Chargers starting five.
